Yilin’s Achievements at the 2024 IACCP International Congress

We are excited to share that our graduate student, Yilin, recently attended the 2024 International Association for Cross Cultural Psychology (IACCP) International Congress, held in the beautiful city of Bali, Indonesia. Yilin’s participation in this prestigious event reflects her dedication to advancing research in cross-cultural psychology.

Yilin was selected to join the IACCP Culture & Psychology Summer School, where she took part in two specialized streams: ‘Machine Learning in Cross-Cultural Research’ and ‘Social Change through Big Cross-national Projects: Project Management Strategies.’ Through these sessions, Yilin gained foundational knowledge in applying machine learning techniques to cross-cultural research and learned effective strategies for initiating and managing large-scale cross-national projects. These sessions were led by experienced researchers, Drs. Saba Safdar and Natasza Kosakowska-Berezecka, who provided valuable hands-on insights.

At the congress, Yilin presented two posters showcasing her research. The first poster, titled “Exploring the Impact of Perceived & Objective Cultural Distance (Cultural Fixation Index) on Immigrant Acculturation and Well-being,” delved into the complex relationship between cultural distance and immigrant well-being. Her second poster, “Cross-National Differences in Optimal Sexual Frequency And Its Impact on Well-Being,” explored variations in sexual frequency across cultures and its implications for well-being.

In addition to her presentations, Yilin was honored with the IACCP SPARK Grant, receiving $1,000 USD to support her project on “Cross-Cultural Differences in Female Cohesion.” This award is a recognition of her innovative approach to understanding female cohesion across different cultural contexts.

Congratulations to Yilin for her outstanding contributions and for representing our lab at the international level! We look forward to seeing the continued impact of her work in the field of cross-cultural psychology.
