Our lab was thrilled to participate in the Society for Personality and Social Psychology’s Annual Convention from February 19–22, 2025, in Denver, Colorado. The event proved exceptionally fruitful for our members, showcasing a diverse range of research, talks, and collaborations. Lab director Dr. Götz received the SAGE Emerging Scholar Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field. He also gave a talk titled “A Psychologist’s Guide to Evidence-Based Advocacy: Best Practices and Lessons Learned,” and chaired a breakout session on engagement with the United Nations alongside Dr. Rakoen Maertens from the University of Oxford.
Our graduate student Sakshi shared her work in a poster presentation on the dark sides of courage at the Personality Science Preconference. She also delivered a symposium talk exploring how prosocial behavior can influence immigrant wellbeing, contributing to a larger symposium on social wellbeing across time and space. Another of our graduate students, Yilin, gave two data blitz talks. The first, at the Advances in Cultural Psychology Preconference, was titled “Exploring Personality Diversity Across Japan and Its Impact on Political, Economic, Social, and Health Outcomes.” The second, at the Personality Science Preconference, discussed “Beyond Averages: Exploring Personality Diversity Across Japan and Its Impact on Political, Economic, Social, and Health Outcomes.”
Our postdoctoral researcher Dr. Koo presented a thought-provoking talk examining leisure guilt in the symposium “Work Rules Us All: It Shapes Morality, Religion, and Happiness.” Meanwhile, our lab manager Frankie contributed two posters to this year’s conference offerings, one focusing on societal impacts of regional differences in personality facets in Japan (shown at the Personality Science Preconference), and another highlighting objective cultural distance and immigration wellbeing at the main conference.
On the social side of the convention, the entire lab enjoyed a memorable excursion to the Denver Art Museum, which offered a refreshing change of pace from the conference sessions and allowed for creative discussions inspired by the museum’s collections. We extend our congratulations to everyone who presented, and especially to Dr. Götz for his well-deserved award. We look forward to continuing our research and sharing our progress in the months to come!
